So I had to go to the doctor yesterday. It wasn’t anything major, just needed a prescription.
The nurse couldn’t weigh me on the normal scale because I was over 350.
This is the most I’ve ever weighed. I gained a lot while I was unemployed and now it’s time to get rid of it. And I’m going to be using this blog to help me. I’m going to post my weight every day. You guys will be able to see whether or not I’m following my diet; I won’t be able to hide it.
I’m sick of this. Being overweight affects every aspect of your life, because it drains away all of your energy. It gets in the way of everything you want to do.
Time to put this thing away once and for all.
Go for it! Two buddies of mine (who happen to be brothers) weigh in at close to 500lbs. Unfortunately, obesity runs in their families, and their mother died when she was in her late 30s due to complications.
Losing weight (and keeping it off) is probably the hardest thing to do. Requires discipline and a change of eating habits.
Eat normally. Don’t skip meals. Just try to stick with 1/2 the portion that you normally would eat. Watch the fat intake (especially trans and saturated fats).
Good luck with this!
I don’t believe in luck, but I believe that anyone can accomplish anything they set out to do. If I had a hat on, I would take it off to you. I had a friend throughout high school that was severely overweight and he decided to do something about it one day. He’s now in excellent shape.
I would suggest that you might possibly post your weight once a week instead of every day, since your weight isn’t probably going to change that much from day to day and it might make it harder. I know it would for me.
Yeah good luck here too.
I was able to lose weight by A) exercising and B) watching the caloric intake. Really that’s all you need to do. You need to burn more calories than you consume. And yes it’s hard as heck, but you just got to discipline yourself.
You can either lose enough weight to see it and then start working out to tone — which I guess people wouldn’t recommend because when you build muscle it helps burn fat but I feel that if you want to see significant progress then you should do that which helps that — or because of what I just said you could start weightlifting and such… eventually more muscle = less fat.
In any case as far as posting every day verses once a week you don’t really know if it would be discouraging to you or not unless you try it, however keep in mind that your weight fluctuates daily, some days you could gain a couple of pounds the next you could lose more, so actually watching it every day doesn’t help much (it didn’t actually stop me from doing anything but it didn’t really help) — you can see some distinct progress weekly, but only if you’re losing at least one pound per week.
Essentially it takes 7000 calories for 1lb gained or burned and that is eat 7000 calories less than you burn in a week sans the actual caloric intake you need to actually survive. When I was losing mine I attempted to keep my daily caloric intake at 1000 calories, this corresponded into 7000 calories per week (I was actually doing 2lbs a week however as I think the exercising was expiditing it).
Anyways I hope it works out,
Keith
Thank you guys for your encouragement. I know I haven’t posted my weight or anything…I’m still gearing up. I’ll be taking baby steps like I did the first time when I came so close to getting the weight off. First step: get off caffeine again!
Good luck, Anthony! If you want some serious encouragement, take a look at Mike McKinley’s most recent picture on MySpace. He’s lost 90 pounds! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=28727699
Thanks, Wynne. Yeah, Mike had already started losing weight while we were still together at Gizmondo and now he’s completely shown me up. So I guess it’s my turn now.
