No, really, I did. I was working at GameSpot (apparently) and Jeff kept popping up and I kept trying to tell him how funny I thought he was in the most recent Gamespotting Live, but every time I tried to tell him it kept turning out not to be him, and I’d see him over somewhere else. It was a strange dream.
Ugggghhh….
Was sick yesterday. I hate having to call in sick; my work ethic is strong enough that it makes me feel vaguely guilty, even though it’s a bit hard to work when you can barely stay awake or focus your vision…
Anyway, I’m hopped up on DayQuil now, so bring on the day!
What the Hell? I Thought You Said MORE Updates!
Um…yeah. Seems like every time I say that, it’s right before I have to go into crunch on a game. The crunch is easing off, so posting should resume shortly.
Here, Bloggy! Nice Bloggy!
I hate the word “blog”. I just hate it. It’s ugly-looking and hard to pronounce in the way that only odd contractions of larger words can be. It also conjures up images of people talking about one subject and one subject only.
So guess what I’m doing to the site?
Yep, that’s right, it’s going to become more bloggy. (God, and if there’s a word I hate more than blog, it’s bloggy). I wanted to keep this site strictly about game design, but the interconnectedness of all things won’t let me. There are simply too many times when I’ve wanted to talk about something here and stopped myself, saying, “Hey, that’s not really about game design.” I’m tired of having to do that.
So while I will still throw down with the frequent beefy post about how to make your games not suck, I’ll also be posting about cool stuff, games in general and life as a game developer here in Austin. I’m not going to mention where I work specifically (and standard boilerplate applies – my opinions are mine, not my employers), but I do want to talk about what life in the “industry” is really like. And hey, I’ve got the “Site Owner and Operator’s Perogative”.
What does this mean? Well for one thing, it means the site will get updated more often! Also, I’m going to be putting together a sort of “Intro to Game History” link bonanza for people who really want to learn about how computer and video gaming started and progressed, as well as links to other blogs that talk about game design (and guess what – there are some!)
Okay, let’s try this once more…
Yet Another Site Redesign. I’m keeping the title, I like it. But the CityDesk version of this site is gone; I got sucked into trying CityDesk because of my respect for Joel Spolsky, one of its creators. What I didn’t know is that CityDesk doesn’t handle updating a site from multiple locations (ie, work and home) well. So I could write from work or home, but not both. Sorry, not good enough.
So I’m back to the original format, with frames. Sorry about that, but it’s that or no site. Aren’t you glad I chose frames instead?
Most of the site is still inaccessible, unfortunately. I’m going through and asking every page to justify its existence; those that cannot won’t be back. (The Cheesehead should be the first thing that returns).

It’s crunch time here at work, so the site probably won’t be updated for a week or so. Sorry. Fortunately, once this project gets out the door I’m going on vacation, so I should have plenty of time to pontificate then.
