I swear, I’ll get back to the normal content of this blog soon…probably after we get to Stardock.
But in the meantime – Name! That! Game!
This game was a Bard’s Tale-style first-person RPG. It was produced on the PC originally instead of being a port, and was a much better game for it.
But it had a unique combat component. Instead of combat being basically a rolling output of text like in Bard’s Tale-style games, once combat was initiated the game turned into Ultima IV!
Name and developer, please! If you win, I’ll tell you the Galactic Secret!
Ah hah! That is easy!
That game is…
Crap! I don’t actually know this one! Shooting pretty obscure with this one.
And it totally does look like he is playing the guitar. I guess that would make him a bard.
Since no-one else seems to be up to revealing the Galactic Secret, Dark Heart of Uukrul by Digital Studios Limited.
I’m half tempted to drag myself through all the rpg’s in mobygames to find this =) really no idea what it is.
Isn’t Mobygames great? It is like IMDB for nerds. I love finding out who designed all of my old favorite games, and then seeing what they went on to do.
In the future, you are going to have to find a way to make it less easy to cheat these competitions, because it’s easy to beat them with reverse image search.

Ah, technology. Will you ever stop taking the fn out of everything?
@Enno – Thanks for that advice man 🙂
Now I know how to beat these Name That Game contests in the future. I hope Viridian doesn’t read this 😛
Yeah, I’m not sure where to go with this now. When Jay Barnson did it first on his website he said, “The best thing about this is you can’t google a screenshot!” Except now you can. I’m not sure how to run a quiz that would actually require people to know the answer at this point.
And this unfortunately means that I cannot reveal the Galactic Secret at this time.
