In today’s Name That Game, we are returning to images – but not complete screenshots.
Below you will find eight 32×32 (1024 pixel) images cropped from various games. Can you guess them all?

I’m not very confident, but 1 reminds me of Warcraft 2, and 4 looks like it might be Syndicate.
You are correct! I was really thinking that I’d made #1 too hard, since it’s just trees in snow. But it was the first one guessed!
And yes, #4 is Syndicate. After I died. Because I couldn’t remember how to select my weapons.
hm… tricky
1. Warcraft 2
7. Castles 1
8. Dune 2
can’t pinpoint the others
All correct! So we have so far:
1. Warcraft 2
4. Syndicate
7. Castles
8. Dune 2
Warcraft 2 was the only one I recognised, so I don’t think you made it too hard.
3. some of the x-wing or tie fighter games?
2. Looks like Warlords.
Dennis: You are correct, sir!
Sol: Okay, I’ll accept that. Yes, it’s the original X-Wing.
Now we’re just missing 5 and 6.
Hmm… A CGA and an EGA palette. We’re going way-back in PC land.
6. The Magic Candle
I first thought it was Wasteland but it wasn’t so I looked for similar 2D RPG games on the web and found out by a screenshot on mobygames which has the same red shirt blue pants character on it.

Correct! Just one more…
DOH! This angel taunts me so…
It’s not an angel, just your average adventurer. This is a very old RPG that came in three parts and was released on all the “classic” 8-bit computers, but was originally released on the TRS-80.
With that last hint it is almost too easy: 5. Temple Of Apshai (Trilogy). I couldn’t find which exact part though as the screenshots found across the web from the individual parts all looked different from the ones of the Trilogy release.
Correct! The list is now complete! A winner is all of you!
I like the response I got on this one, I’ll almost certainly do it again.
Yay for us!
1: Warcraft 2
2: Warlords
8: Dune 2
Oooohh!!!! WAAAARLOOORDS!!!! I love that game, finally a game I recognized, I didn’t even have to view a bigger version. Uhm, picture number 2.
