I am continuing my kick of “easy games that are really good”. This particular series of games is one that I never got into myself but I know lots of people loved. I really should try it sometime…
Warlords! One of my favourites .. I and my friend made a warlords plagiary for Amiga, It was called Bloodwars. Bloodwars had more quests, items, casting units (mages), gazillion of units and a map editor! One of the biggest drawbacks in Warlords was lack of maps.
I recently started a project for Java version of Bloodwars with network game support and even more quests, items, etc. Project can be found in sourceforge under name “Bloodwars2, The Bastard of the Voud”. I just wish I had more time to do the Java port..
Anyone else remember Warlords for the Atari 2600? It was a Pong clone, but you protected a walled off castle in a corner. The ball was dangerous because if you lose your wall, the only thing protecting your castle is your paddle.
Every time I hear Warlords, THAT’s the game I think of. Then I have to remind myself that everyone else is talking about some other game that I’ve never played. B-)
Wow, that’s an extremely faithful remake! Um, from a gameplay perspective, at least. Another interesting thing about Warlords is that it was pretty much the inspiration for the excellent Erfworld webcomic, with the only real difference being that game is played on a hex grid. And all the crazy pop culture references. And all the crazy types of magic. And all the crazy…etc, etc.
Warlords by Steven Fawkner.
I played the crap out of that game.
Correct! I definitely need to track down a copy to try for myself.
