My good friend Tom Mauer is very interested in entering the Dream Build Play competition, which requires developers to take a game they are provided (in this case a souped-up version of SpaceWar) and spend three weeks improving it in some way.
His idea was to overlay a tactical strategy game on top of the simple arcade action, in the vein of Archon. The result: SpaceWar Tactics!
Give it a try and leave him some feedback, won’t you?
Archon .. SpaceWars .. /drool.
Downloading as I type this.
Nooo… “Spacewar has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” 🙁
@Marko make sure you have the the latest DirectX, the .net 2.0 framework, and apparently a shader model 2.0 video card is required as well. Sorry about the vid card…
Don’t blame Tom for those requirements…it’s all XNA’s fault. Unlike my games, where it’s all my fault!
I tried installing latest DirectX and also did a repair install for .NET 2.0 (already had that installed). My graphics card is NVidia 6600 GT which, I think, has support for shader model 3.0 or lower, but still it fails to start. I am currently a bit low on RAM (only half gig) because one of my memory sticks broke up recently.
Alas, I was really looking forward to try this, so if you can think of any other solution I could try, please let me know.
Sorry I got nothing. All the formus usualy associate that error with either the wrong version of DirectX or not having Shader model 2.0 (which I believe the 6600 has)…
I have now tried on two different computers (one with 6600GT and the other with Nvidia Quadro FX) without success. Should I install some XNA stuff before I can actually run it?
Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 1.0 did the trick. It can be downloaded from link below 🙂
